Shark teeth provide a wealth of data and information about both modern and ancient sharks, as well as the environments they inhabit. Scientists can analyze the physical characteristics of shark teeth to determine species, feeding behaviors, and age. Beyond that, chemical analysis (e.g., isotopic and oxygen composition) can help reconstruct past ocean temperatures, migration patterns, chemistry, and environmental changes over time.
The process of extracting vital information from a shark’s tooth is similar to obtaining data from a transformer’s insulating liquid. Diagnostic testing results are an excellent indicator of a transformer's condition. We treat each of our thousands of liquid samples as a snapshot loaded with valuable information.
