MOISTURE REDUCTION

Frogs, including green tree frogs, have delicate and sensitive skin. The oils and chemicals present on the surface of human hands can be harmful to them. Handling the frogs with dry hands is crucial to avoid transferring substances that might disrupt their delicate skin’s moisture balance.

Much like the kraft paper insulation in a transformer, the insulating liquid protects it from moisture and other harmful substances that can cause degradation.

Moisture is the enemy of a transformer. When the moisture content inside a transformer doubles, the paper’s lifespan is cut in half. While it’s possible to stop the degradation of the insulation, the effects of this damage are irreversible. And every year you delay fixing the problem, you lose approximately two years of reliable service. The degraded paper also increases your risk of flashover and dielectric failure.

There is more than one way to reduce a transformer's moisture content, but the most efficient method is using an online dryer as part of a moisture reduction program. This method works on energized equipment and immediately prevents further degradation of paper insulation, improving transformer reliability.
